a saturday spent in eating and talking with new friends... late into the night...
as a result, a late sunday morning...
i began my day by taking a look at some of the edits DA has done and then emailing the contributor the galleys.
and, i asked myself: what does it mean to curate work that's not your own?
what does it mean to try to build up a space for others?
this putting together an issue, little by little by little...working towards it every day... falling in love with a piece that's not my own. and, i recognize, once again, how much writing and art-making are not about "profession" to me. it's something else -- a place to build up things, a place for digging deeper, a place for dissent.
because i operate within a world that's based upon commodification of things, labor and emotions, all these things i do will inevitably end up striking their heads against commodification. it is inevitable, and how can it not? but, then, when i write, edit, curate, i also believe i am engaging in conversations with this overall culture of commodification. a weak conversation, but still a conversation of sorts...
